History of the Wests Tigers' Den
The Merger: Two Legends Become One (1999)
The Wests Tigers story began with a historic handshake. In 1999, two foundation clubs of the NSWRL-the Balmain Tigers (est. 1908) and the Western Suburbs Magpies (est. 1908)- decided to merge. This joined the "black and gold" of Balmain with the "black and white" of Wests, creating the iconic orange, black and white jersey. Ut wasn't just about survival; it was about bringing two massive fanbasses together into on "Den".
The Miracle Premiership (2005)
Ask any fan, and they will tell you exactly where they were in 2005. After a shaky start to the season, the Tigers went on a legendary winning streak. Led by a young Benji Marshall and captain Scott Prince, they reached the Grand Final against the North Queensland Cowboys. The game featured the most famous "flick pass" in history by Benji Marshall to Pat Richards, leading to a 30-16 victory. It remains one of the most celebrated moments in Australian sporting history.

The Golden Run (2010-2011)
Legendary duo Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall leading the charge.
Following the premiership, the Tigers entered a new era of dominance. Led by club legends Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall, the team made back-to-back finals appearances in 2010 and 2011. They became famous for their "unpredictable" attacking style of football, consistently finishing near the top of the ladder and drawing huge crowds to Leichhardt Oval.
The New Era (2026)
Today, the Wests Tigers are roaring louder than ever. With the opening of the world-class Zurich Centre in Concord, the club has a state-of-the-art home for both its NRL and NRLW teams. Under new leadership and with a focus on local juniors from the Macarthur and Balmain regions, the "Den" is a place of excellence. The 2026 season has seen the team climb back into the top 4, proving that the spirit of '05 is alive and well, with Benji Marshall as coach.
